St. Lucia

This Caribbean Island makes a wonderful honeymoon or wedding destination.  It is part of the windward islands and is about 28 miles long and 13 miles wide.  I think this is the perfect size to explore in a 6 to 7 day honeymoon.

The international airport in St Lucia is called Hewanorra(UVH).  There is also a smaller airport near Castries called George Charles(SLU).  The population of the island is around 168,000.  The official language is English but French and Spanish are also spoken in spots. More than 90% of the islands population are Roman Catholics. Climate is tropical. The Eastern Caribbean Dollar is the official currency but most places will take your U.S. Dollars and Euros.

The Pitons are the world famous twin volcanic peaks located near the village of Soufriere, Gros Piton and Petit Pition.  This is a must see.  We suggest sailing down the coast on one of the many catamaran tours available.  Set this up in advance or ask your hotel to help you.

There are many resorts here on St Lucia with most being on the west side of the island facing the Caribbean.  Here are a few of our recommendations.  Grande St Lucian Sandals this my favorite Sandals resort.  The resort sits between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. The Rondavals are amazing. Angel likes the Sandals Regency La Toc.  The grounds here are amazing and you are next door to a great golf course.  Also, Ladera would be a great choice near the Pitions.  It is a small resort but the views are stunning.

Activities are almost too many to list.  Almost any water sport you can think of including great diving.  Here is a favorite: Superman's Flight: Names for a scene on St Lucia for the movie Superman II, this site is a drift dive on a gentle wall that drops to 1600ft. Good visibility created by strong currents permits crystal clear viewing for underwater exploration. Divers can enter the water here at the base of Petit Piton.  The list of dives are very long!

Rainforest hikes and plantation tours are easy and informative.  There are many charter yacht companies that will take you out for the day.  Deep sea fishing is also great here since you have the Caribbean on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other side of the island.

Horseback riding on the beach is wonderful here on this island.  How about turtle or whale watching?  Golf, Zip Lining and great snorkeling are all available on this great island.

This is but a small overview of St Lucia.  Please post comments and questions and we will try to answers them.  We have been to St Lucia many times and can find out the answer for you if we do not know it.
