Barbados
I am hoping to touch on many of the islands in the Caribbean but wanted to start with Barbados. Again, this will be general information. These are things that I would ask about if I were going there. Flights can be a challenge if you wait to the last minute. Usually 4 months are longer will get you into Barbados by 2pm leaving at 6am. The flight time from Miami is around 3 hours 30 minutes. I speak thinking of the New Orleans airport; your times will vary if you live elsewhere.
There are many accommodations on this island, from all inclusive to luxury villas and anything in between. Barbados has been an independent nation for more than 40 years but you still feel and see their English heritage thought out the island and the people. This is a very friendly island wanting your tourist dollars.
Angel and I have spent lots of time here and have gotten to know many locals. They are all great folks. Our favorite has to be “Super Dave” Dave Charles. He is a part-time taxi driver and part-time painter. He encouraged us to really explore this island and we have with his and others help.
My favorite resort has to be Sandy Lane Beach. This is a 5 star resort. Tiger Woods was married at this resort. The Crane would be a close 2nd to me. Both have great service and those luxury items you would expect. If you are looking to hold your budget down how about Time out at the Gap? Although across from the beach it is in a great location. I could go on and on but if you can dream it Barbados has your type of lodging.
There are many activities on Barbados. I can still think of our first visit to Harrison’s Cave. The 40 foot waterfall is unreal. They have done a great job lighting this cave. This is a must do for those on a honeymoon. Orchid World is another must see if you like flowers or just natural beauty. I can’t believe how beautiful and so many types of orchids they have at this place. Barbados Wildlife Reserve is another place you will love. If your hotel has a congeries, ask them to find out when the monkeys will be heading to the Reserve. They feed the green monkeys at certain times and it is unreal when they come out of the fields for Dinner. It is better at certain times so ask before you go.
There are water sports of every kind located on Barbados and the beaches are world class. They have at least 5 great golf courses. There are many restaurants throughout the island. I suggest you find a local restaurant and have a flying fish sandwich. They are great!
There are many tours you can take to visit these locations from your hotel or you could rent a private car for the day and take a tour of the entire island. If you choose this option be sure and stop at a cricket game. The Bajans are very passionate about this game.
Please let us know if you have any questions and we will try to answer them. Stay tuned next time we will spend a few minutes talking about St Lucia.
